Fiverr Gig Image Size, and a Thumbnail Design That Gets Clicks
The Fiverr gig image size is 1280 × 769 px, and that is the easy part. The hard part is that your thumbnail sits in a grid of fifty near-identical rivals, shrunk to the size of a stamp, and has about one glance to win.
What is the Fiverr gig image size?
Fiverr recommends a gig image of 1280 × 769 px at 72 DPI, with a minimum of 712 × 430 px and a maximum of 4000 × 2416 px. Images are landscape, and each gig gallery holds up to three images, one video and two PDFs. Those numbers come from Fiverr’s own Help Center.
| What | Fiverr’s rule |
|---|---|
| Recommended size | 1280 × 769 px at 72 DPI |
| Minimum size | 712 × 430 px |
| Maximum size | 4000 × 2416 px |
| Orientation | Horizontal (landscape) |
| Gallery slots | Up to three images, one video and two PDFs |
| Text on the image | Up to 10 words, in a font that stays readable at small sizes |
| Logos of other platforms | Up to five, and only with the owner’s consent or a licence |
I checked all of this against the Help Center article Creating Gig images and tagging your Gig gallery on 23 October 2026. Fiverr’s page does not state a maximum file size or a list of accepted image formats, so this guide does not either. Many blogs print a megabyte limit with great confidence. Treat those as hearsay until the upload screen says otherwise.
Which size should you design for?
Design for 1280 × 769 px and keep every important element away from the edges. That is the size Fiverr names as recommended, so nothing gets stretched or squeezed, and a large source image can always be scaled down while a small one cannot be scaled up without turning soft.
The ratio is about 1.66 to 1. A 16:9 frame is a touch wider and shorter: at 1280 px wide it is 720 px tall, against Fiverr’s 769. It is a small gap, but it is the reason to look at your gig in the gallery before you publish and make sure no word or face sits right on the cut.
Fiverr also asks you to avoid blurry, pixelated, stretched or squished images. A thumbnail that looks fine on your 27-inch monitor can look like a wet watercolour on a phone, so check it on one.
What makes a Fiverr gig thumbnail get clicked?
A clicked thumbnail says one clear thing about the service, in very few words, at stamp size. Fiverr does not publish a click formula, so what follows is design judgement plus Fiverr’s own rules, not a promise of a number. Four habits do most of the work.
One idea per image
Pick the single thing the buyer is shopping for: “logo design”, “WordPress speed fix”, “book cover”. Show that thing. If you also want to say you are fast, cheap, award-winning and available at midnight, you now have four ideas and zero clicks. Use the other two image slots for the other messages.
Readable at small size
Fiverr asks for no more than 10 words and a font that stays easy to read when small. Go further: a headline of three to five words, in a heavy weight, with text that is much darker or much lighter than what is behind it. Squint at the image, or shrink it to the width of your thumb. If the headline vanishes, the buyer never saw it.
Exact price and title text
If you put a starting price or a deliverable on the image, it has to be exactly right: “From $25”, not “From $2S”. A typo in the one number a buyer scans for does more damage than a plain background ever could. It also has to stay true. The image is a promise, and Fiverr warns that misleading or clickbait images can lower your ranking and hurt your gig’s reputation.
A consistent look across your gigs
When a buyer sees three of your gigs, they should recognise one seller: the same type, the same colour logic, the same place for the headline. Fiverr’s guidance adds a counterweight. If you offer more than one gig, use unique images and text for each. So keep the system, change the content.
What are the most common gig thumbnail mistakes?
The most common mistakes are too many words, low contrast, a generic stock photo and an image that does not match the service. Most are visible in five seconds, which is the good news: each one is fixed by taking something away.
- A paragraph on a postage stamp. Past 10 words you break Fiverr’s own guideline, and past five the type is too small to read in the grid.
- Repeating the gig title word for word. Fiverr suggests not repeating text that already appears on your gig card. Use the image to show or add something instead.
- Adding Fiverr badges yourself. Fiverr adds badges to your gig automatically. If you paste in Fiverr logos, ratings or level badges, it flags the gig and removes it.
- Contact details on the image. Email, phone numbers and handles do not belong there, and private information is against the rules.
- A stock photo that could sell anything. Fiverr says your images must relate directly to the service. In Design categories they must also be original.
- Logo soup. Up to five relevant platform logos are allowed, and only with permission. Fewer is usually better.
- Low contrast. Grey text on a grey photo looks stylish on a big screen and invisible in a feed.
How do you make a gig thumbnail step by step?
Write the one-line promise first, then build the image around it. This order keeps the design from drifting into decoration.
- Write the promise in three to five words. “Logos that look expensive” beats “Professional logo design services”.
- Choose the visual: your face on a clean, well-lit background (Fiverr encourages a front-facing photo for the gig image), or a sample of the work itself.
- Set the headline in a heavy, simple typeface with strong contrast against the background.
- Add at most one extra element, such as a starting price or a short badge-style label that is not a Fiverr badge.
- Export at 1280 × 769 px, name the file after the service (Fiverr says a descriptive file name helps search), and look at it at thumbnail size on your phone.
- Repeat the system for your next gig, with new words and a new picture.
Can an AI card generator make a Fiverr gig thumbnail?
Yes, for the thumbnail’s layout and look. In Card Generator you can switch on Unique AI design, describe the style (there is a ready “Fiverr gig” brief) and choose the 16:9 format, which is the closest card format to Fiverr’s gig image proportions. Your photo goes in, and your title and price are set as real text, not drawn by the model, so a number is not misspelled.
The design is made once for your brand key, brief and format, and the next cards in that design cost the usual price, which suits the “consistent look across gigs” rule above. If a unique design cannot be made, you get a catalog design and the design fee is not charged. If you would rather pick than describe, the card design gallery shows the catalog.
Building a tool for sellers rather than a single gig? The same cards can be rendered by API, as the developer documentation explains.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the best size for a Fiverr gig image?
- Fiverr recommends 1280 × 769 px at 72 DPI, in landscape orientation. The minimum is 712 × 430 px and the maximum is 4000 × 2416 px. Design at the recommended size and keep key text away from the edges so a crop never cuts it.
- How many images can a Fiverr gig have?
- According to Fiverr’s Help Center, a gig gallery holds up to three images, one video and two PDFs. Fiverr’s advice is to keep it simple: pick strong images that each show your service clearly, rather than filling every slot with filler.
- How much text can I put on a Fiverr gig thumbnail?
- Fiverr’s guidelines say up to 10 words, in a font that stays easy to read at small sizes and with clear contrast against the background. In practice a headline of three to five words is easier to read in a crowded search grid.
- Can I add Fiverr badges or my contact details to the image?
- No. Fiverr adds badges to your gig automatically, and if you add Fiverr logos, ratings or level badges yourself, it flags the gig and removes it. Private information, including contact details, must also stay off the image.
- Should every gig have a different thumbnail?
- Yes. Fiverr says that if you offer more than one gig, you should choose unique images and text for each. Keep a recognisable style across them, such as the same typeface and colour logic, but change the headline and the picture.
